	Project Overview: SCS had an outdated, crowded layout for all of their course displayed on Canvas. They had asked me to redesign the media in a manner that would reduce day-to-day work for the instructional designers and modernize their front-end. 

Design Decisions: Their previous banner took up too much space and caused students to scroll down to view their material. It also contained personalized titles in each banner per page per module. Lastly, it contained an image that was used on each course's homepage. This caused every course to have 50-70 banners to be created by hand and exported individually to upload to each module page. Here are the design decisions I took to solve these issues: 

︎ Remove titles and custom images

By removing the title and custom image, the designer would not have to export so many banners and export only one to be used across the entire online course.
The instructional designer will only need to upload one image that can be duplicated to every module page instead of having to upload custom ones.

︎ Convert file to SVG
Keeping digital assets in SVG format allows your design quality to remain at its highest quality for every monitor size.Banner will upload faster and simplify the page due to the constraints of keeping it as an SVG.
︎ Limit the color palette and customizability
Like most organizations, Georgetown faces issues where certain faculty will perceive some designs as professional, and others not. By removing the option to customize and limiting the color palette to five colors, faculty will defer to the preset assets and choose which one is to their liking. This keeps SCS courses unified in their branding and identity and cleans up all of their courses.By creating four variants under five color options, instructional designers and faculty members have enough options to differentiate courses from each other and maintain a personalized touch while sticking to SCS’s new identity and branding.

	Project Overview:


	During my summer internship at PenFed Credit Union, I was asked to audit the current company website of inconsistencies and find opportunities to correct the information architecture. The company was going to start the process of creating and designing templates to unify their service and product pages. I was asked to build the initial mockups of these templates through my analysis of their current site layout. These mockups were to be constructed with the existing design components created by the senior ui designer in medium to high fidelity wireframes.&#38;nbsp;

	I combed through PenFed’s checking, savings, certificate, IRA, and loans service and product pages and took notes on their information architecture. I had one goal in mind:&#38;nbsp;I need to reduce cognitive overload by gathering the most necessary information and spread it across all services in a structure that is flexible and uniform. Penfed’s website was displayed in two different design systems. This is because they had issues fully converting to a newer system due to third party businesses intervening. They also repeatedly displayed large amounts of information on single pages. Without a UX copywriter, they struggled with condensing the information given by these third parties. Each overview and product page, for products such as loans or checking, had cognitive overload. I needed to produce templates that included the necessary requirements demanded by the line of businesses while simultaneously using the new design system components to offer a solution to this problem.

Design Decisions


	Due to the number of pages I annotated, I decided to dissect my design choices for checking and savings service and product pages. PenFed currently has three pages for checkings and four for savings. Both have one overview section, leaving the rest as product display. This entire section is a perfect display of both combatting design systems. Checkings is displayed in the newer system and savings is displayed in the old one. I needed to create two templates that apply to all seven pages. One for the overview and one for the product display. Here are some major design choices I made:︎ &#38;nbsp;Remove repetitive information
PenFed displays additional features and benefits on each product display page. This information is also relatively the same across all products.&#38;nbsp;My template offers an option to display these on the overview page so users can toggle through the options and physically look at all the services while making a decision︎&#38;nbsp; Simplify callouts
The checkings and savings overview and product pages all contain a callout for PenFed’s mobile app. This information can also be brought to the overview and removed from product pages to focus the users attention to the product features.︎&#38;nbsp; Unify inconsistencies&#38;nbsp;
Throughout the seven pages, the information architecture was very inconsistent and lacked uniformity. I averaged out the general layout that would follow their company design image while maintaining a structure that is easy for a user to follow.︎&#38;nbsp; Reduce images
On top of having a large quantity of information, PenFed displays many low-res images in almost all sections of their pages. I centered a large part of my process of framing components around avoiding unnecessary images.

Takeaway


	These templates, overview and product, can be applied to all checking and savings account pages. In the current pages the content does not tell me enough about the product and it instead displays unrelated information. Having one callout sticking to the overview page reduces overload by a lot. When callouts are so repetitive, it can become either distracting from the product, or just an obstacle to get to where you want to be. In the product display, reading about the process on how to apply for an account and testing out the calculator are great selling points for each saving and checking account. Having those, as well as features and benefits listed, is good information that a consumer will probably be looking for. I decided to keep the faq only on the product page to keep the information concise. There is no need to list this in both overview and product as that will cause information overload. The same applies to the featured article. Overviews should be seen as a general learning space. It makes more sense to leave the featured article for that area rather than the product pages.

Next Step


	After a long time of presenting this information, PenFed will take my research and templates to high level prototyping and incorporate it in the launch of the new site! My research was the first step to a long process of rebranding the ui of the main website. The design team will now need to fix other parts of the site to match this information architecture and present their findings to the lines of businesses.&#38;nbsp;

	Design DecisionsDuring this project, I was told to compile research of any topic that interests me in a web space. Being a woman of color, I chose the topic of the wage gap in America. The wage gap is a highly controversial subject not only in America, but in many parts of the world. I decided that I wanted my design to reflect the bold culture of feminism and activism. Here are some key design choices I made that transformed my research into a larger statement.︎&#38;nbsp; Bold color palette

Bold colors are often digested as a trigger for a reaction to a large audience. They are also interpreted as dramatic, making the audience energized while reading.&#38;nbsp;If I’m proclaiming to be an activist I must make sure my audience leaves my website forever remembering their experience reading about the state of the wage gap.
︎&#38;nbsp; Black and white infographics 
The highly saturated backgrounds force the content in the foreground to pop out. Predictably however, adding many other colors on top of a bold hue can confuse the eye and cause cognitive overload.&#38;nbsp;Black and white lays calmly over color and is much easier to read.︎&#38;nbsp; Lack of marginsThere should be a good interaction between type, image, and color in any designed object. In general typesetting rules, margins and padding are important aspects of constructing readability in the object. Due to the look of my bold palette, large titles, and strange political collages, it only made sense to have a rebellious typesetting and reduce my margins to as small as possible.

	Project Overview:


	While working at The Biglaw Investor, I was asked to create the foundation for a new “call-to-action” method the company wanted to try out. The Biglaw Investor is a company that helps lawyers and doctors manage their finances by providing bank represetatives, loan information, and investing knowledge. One of their services is connecting physicians across america with banks that best suit their needs. They already had a well written article that explained all you need to know about how to select the right bank and who to talk to. However, they had a low conversion rate of people coming to the article and using their concierge service that directly connects the physician with a bank representative of their interest. I was then asked to design new digital cards that enticed the reader to head to the concierge. These cards should display necessary bank information while staying transparent about the service the Biglaw provides.

	I was given an old card that was no longer in use on the website to build on. In Figma, I made several iterations that provided more information than the old card while maintaining the brand identity. I had to make two different types of CTA’s, or call-to-actions. One that offered a bank that Biglaw has a relationship with, and one that Biglaw does not.&#38;nbsp;

	Design Goals
My objective was to keep this simple. Biglaw has a distinct brand style that I am careful to not stray from. They keep rounded edges and long buttons and have a typographic hierarchy in place. There is a universal understanding that cards that display a rounded image with information about said image will inevitably read like a social media profile. I wanted to play with this design system by pushing it in that direction. After all, we are listing a widely known bank and stating all of their best features, much like a social media profile does. Another inspiration that pushed forward the design, is baseball cards. Baseball cards are a more literal comparison that applies to the end goal of this new feature. We want to, in a limited space, display all of the best features of this bank and mention who the bank representative is in order to get the reader to click on the contact button and reach the concierge. Things I kept in mind:
︎&#38;nbsp; My audience is doctors and physicians
They will first look to see if their degree is applicable in the state they reside in before reading extra information.While they may be interested in a summary of how the bank can directly benefit them, reading about the down payment and financing options gets straight to the point.
︎&#38;nbsp; Language
Biglaw wants to be transparent that their readers will go through the concierge before actually connecting with a representative. Selecting language that does not directly mislead the physicians to the next step is key.
